Fine Healthcare scoops a place alongside huge corporates at GIBS Awards – 2006

by Fine Healthcare

On the 13th July 2006 Fine Healthcare took its well-earned place amongst the heavyweight corporates of South Africa, Anglo Platinum and Investec, as one of the finalists in the GIBS Colloquium for Social Entrepreneurs Social Entrepreneurship Awards Dinner.

Fine Healthcare was one of only three companies nominated in the Benefactor category for their enormous contribution to Ikageng Itireleng Aids Ministry. The Benefactor is the corporate entity that partners with, or supports the social entrepreneur at a crucial point in the growth of his/her enterprise, which results in stability, growth and ultimately more social value.

Social entrepreneurs (in this case Ikageng founder, Carol Dyanti) nominated their corporate partner for this award. Fine Healthcare was originally responsible for creating a structure for Ikageng in 2002 that allowed the NGO to then attract additional funders and also aided Ikageng in creating a transparent financial reporting system that can be audited. They are involved with Ikageng at a board, management and operational level.

Mandi Fine, MD of Fine Healthcare says she is thrilled about the nomination especially considering the size of Fine Healthcare in contrast to that of the other two multi-national companies nominated. “It is an absolute honour and privilege to be recognised for the work we do with Ikageng. We have been involved with them for four years now and have seen what a difference the commitment of a few people can make to change hundreds of children’s impoverished lives affected by HIV/ Aids. Fine Healthcare employees voluntarily dedicated more than 50% of their time to this project and it is because of their unwavering contribution that Ikageng is empowered and can operate independently” she said.

Mrs Zanele Mbeki was there to present the prestigious awards and guests included Professor Nick Binedell and Professor Gill Marcus. The aim of the dinner was to celebrate the achievements of leading social entrepreneurs and to gain insight into the phenomenon of these successful individuals. CSI in South Africa is a commitment that every corporate, big or small, needs to make, and specialist marketing service agency Fine Healthcare has shown that beneficial intervention can make a real difference.
